Mission
The Virginia Defense Force Radio Group (K4VDF) is an ARRL‑affiliated amateur radio club that supports communications training and emergency preparedness across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our operators integrate military‑style discipline with amateur radio innovation, focusing on deployable VHF/UHF, HF, and digital capabilities to backstop civil and military authorities when normal communications are stressed or unavailable.
Nets & Training
K4VDF conducts structured training nets and practical exercises to build operator proficiency in message handling, net discipline, and joint operations with civil partners.
Sessions emphasize repeatable checklists, clear voice procedure, and the ability to operate with limited power, constrained bandwidth, and austere field conditions.
EchoLink Conference Node
The K4VDF EchoLink conference node is a digital training and coordination platform for Virginia Defense Force Radio Group nets and preparedness exercises.
Any licensed amateur with a validated EchoLink account can participate during the public access phase, using a desktop, laptop, or mobile device over a standard Internet connection.
Until 31 March 2026 the node operates as a public conference; beginning 1 April 2026 access transitions to a private, whitelist‑controlled conference reserved for approved VDF Radio Group members.
